Top 6 Home Remedies For Seasonal Allergies
So it goes without saying that seasonal allergies are incredibly annoying along with everything that comes with them. Between all of the sneezing, sniffling, red eyes, and not to mention all of the expensive medicines that may or may not work, allergies can make you feel like you’re dying (but don’t worry, you’re not). We may not be able to reduce all of the pollen flying through the air; however, there are many home remedies that can help you catch some relief. These are just a few of my personal favorites that have worked for me. 1. Saline We have all seen, and a lot have used, the dreaded “nose spray”. Yes, it is not the most comfortable thing to do, however it helps tremendously. Doctors have actually found that if you do this a couple times of day, a couple weeks before the allergy season hits, it can help reduce your chances of getting the horrible congestion. Why not go ahead and get ready to knock those allergies out before they ever hit? Now this may not necessarily take the place of medication, but it can help reduce the chances of you needing them. 2. Fish Oil Fish oil is a great supplement when it comes to health. This is another one of those things that you don’t have to wait until you get sick to begin taking. You can take fish oil daily just like you would any other vitamin or supplement. 3. Change your clothes Anyone with common knowledge knows that if you are suffering from allergies to just stay inside as much as possible. The more you are out in all of the pollen, the worse your allergies can get. You already to know to make sure and keep windows closed and avoid the extra time outside, but what you may not think about is all of the pollen in the air catching onto your clothes just from that short walk from your car to inside of your house. The best thing you can do for yourself, is as soon as you get inside, go ahead and change clothes and hop in the shower. You just want to rinse all of that pollen off of you. 4. Exercising If you just can’t stand staying inside and keeping away from your morning exercises at least try this. I understand before work or school you want to get that morning run in. However, around allergy season you would do better saving the outdoor exercising for the evening. Most trees will release their pollen and day break and that dreaded ragweed pollen tends to fly mostly mid-day so the best thing you can do for yourself is stick to the afternoon runs. This also would be better considering most people have all of the worst side effects, such as the itching and sneezing, in the morning time. 5. HEPA filters If you do not have a high efficiency HEPA filter in your vacuum cleaner, you may be making matters worse for yourself. Without that, all you are doing is stirring up the dust and pollen that is around your house. Using HEPA filters in your cooling and heating systems can also help ease those allergy symptoms. Another great thing would be keeping an air purifier around your home, especially in the room that is used most in the house. 6. Bring out the drugs! Even after doing everything you could to prevent it, are you still just a hot mess? Then it is time to go ahead and bring out the conventional medicine. If you only have the occasional symptoms then you can just do an over the counter medicine and you should be good to go. However, if you, like stated earlier, feel like you are dying, go ahead and take that trip down to the Urgent Care and get that steroid shot. Trust me, you will feel like a brand new person afterwards.
