Indoor Air Pollution
Most people are unaware of indoor air pollution, but it is prevalent in most homes today. The Environmental Protection Agency says that indoor air is 2-5 times more polluted than outdoor air. When too little outdoor air is allowed to circulate inside, pollutants begin to accumulate. This can lead to health problems like asthma, allergies, heart disease, and lung disease. For this reason, it is necessary to have a good HVAC filter.
One way to help combat indoor air pollution is with the Lennox® Media Filters. These filters are specially designed to filter the entire house. By attaching to the HVAC system, these filters remove particulates as air passes through the system.
Electrostatic or Carbon
Electrostatic Filtration - The Lennox® Media Filters use electrostatic filtration to remove particulates from the air. As air passes through the electrostatically charged filter, the oppositely charged air particles are attracted to the filter media and are trapped. With 98% efficiency, this is a highly efficient form of filtration, several times more efficient than regular fiberglass filters.
MERV Rating - These electrostatic filters are rated according to MERV, which is the minimum efficiency reporting value, which is the scale designed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to rate the effectiveness of air filters. The higher MERV rating indicates higher filtering performance. The Lennox® Media Filters are available as MERV 8, MERV 11, or MERV 13.
Carbon Filtration - These filters are also available with the option of carbon filtration. These filters use activated carbon, which is carbon that has been treated with oxygen to create millions of extremely tiny, highly absorbent pores. The carbon filters trap common household odors (i.e. cooking odors, tobacco odors, musty odors, etc.), as well as smoke and gaseous vapors.
